What’s This About?

What’s This About???

Well, right now, this is about an online resume of sorts.

Which means that this website is about me. I am sorry for the self-centered focus of this BLOG right now, but resumes are about ‘tooting your own horn’.  So, for those congregations who might be looking for a pastor, please view this simply as a resume…and yes, I am trying to ‘toot my horn’.

My name is Rob Zahn. I am a graduate of Luther Seminary in St. Paul (M.Div.) and I have been in ministry for nearly ten years in various capacities. I am a graduate of Concordia College-Moorhead, MN and I am married to Brenda (my best friend and love of my life) and we have 3 beautiful daughters (ages 9, 7, and 1).

So that you can get to know a bit about my ‘style’ and thoughts on ministry, I have included on this website a handful of sermons, a few articles that I have written and some video of the band I am a part of - Maryland Parkway. Feel free listen to and read them and even submit any questions or comments that you might have about them or me. Any response you leave on this website will be e-mailed to me directly and I will respond accordingly.

Here is a bit about my professional history…

I have been blessed to have served two large congregations (worship attendance of 1500 and 2200). In both of those calls I served as Team Leader for Youth and Family Ministery, overseeing Youth Ministries with up to 320 Jr. High and 80 Sr. High Youth in attendance on a weekly basis. My focus and passion in those calls has been for youth as well as for volunteer ministry development, which I believe is the key to successful ministry.

In addition to these full time ministry calls, I have served as a Youth Ministry consultant as well as worked in Organizational Development (OD), overseeing the OD function of the western offices of a publically traded finance company. In contrast to that, I also worked for a couple of years as the understudy Music Director for The Second City Comedy Club at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Currently, I teach as part of the faculty of the Religion Department at Waldorf College.

Through all of these opportunities, I have gained valuable experience in administration, communication (preaching/speaking and writing), team building and training, strategic planning, resource allocation (budgeting and HR), and change management. These skills and abilities are great assets for leaders engaged in transforming the church of today into the gospel proclaiming body of Christ of tomorrow.

*******

I am excited for what God has in store for the future…for me, for you and for the church. This is an exciting time to be God’s people! We are called to proclaim the gospel. I am passionate about doing just that. I feel the Spirit calling me to ordained ministry in the ELCA and in that role I feel my job is not just to proclaim the gospel, but encourage, empower, and equip all of God’s people to do the same.

Thanks for checking in on this website and if you are in an active call process and have any questions for me, feel free to drop a note on this website and I will respond accordingly. Also, my RLP (formerly mobility papers) is now on file in the ‘system’. If you would like a more detailed outline of my ministry philosophy, strengths/skills, and work history, please contact your synod office and follow the procedure of your synod.

God Bless!

Rob Zahn

  1. To any and all who visit and read this guys stuff…read, and keep reading! I’ve personally experienced only a small part of what Rob’s perspective is bringing to the table, and it gives pause only to stop, ask a question, re-ask it and see where God is leading through that question. God has truly gifted Rob for ministry, and though we’re not sure where this road will lead, I know that his passion and energy are very contagious! What a blessing, one of the greatest blessings, it’s been to be part of the Zahn’s journey…we hope and pray for Rob and his awesome family, for the gift that they are and the gift that they will be to whomever is lucky enough to ask this guy to join in their ministry. Whenever, wherever the Zahn’s end up, I know that you will be blessed by them all!
